The project entails the construction of a mega installation with a power generation capacity of 1.5 GW (4 × 375 MW units) and a storage capacity of 21 GWh.

Eskom and Agence Française de Développement signed a R125-million grant agreement in November 2024 to support Eskom in the development of the project.

The utility is procuring a transaction adviser to finalise the business case, conduct feasibility studies and secure a private developer for the build phase.
In addition, enabling infrastructure work, such as detailed engineering designs for the regional roads and bridges network, is actively advancing.
